As a conversion device, the motor frequency converter generates certain power consumption during operation. This part of the power consumption will be different according to the load, the control mode is different, the brand and specifications of the inverter are different, there will be differences. The data show that the power consumption of the inverter is about 4~5% of its capacity.  Among them, the inverter part accounts for about 50%, the rectifier and DC circuit accounts for about 40%, and the control and protection circuit accounts for 5-15%.  The 10 rule indicates that the reliability of the device will be doubled when the device temperature is reduced by 10. Thus it can be seen that frequency converter, reduce the temperature rise, improve the reliability of the device, so as to extend the service life of the equipment, better serve the society is how important.

The heat dissipation of frequency converter is divided into the following types: natural heat dissipation, forced air cooling and water cooling.

Natural heat dissipation

Small capacity frequency converter, generally adopt natural heat dissipation, its use environment should be well ventilated, no dust and easy to adhere to floating objects. The drag object of this kind of inverter is air conditioning fan, machine tool carving machine and so on. It has low power and excellent operating environment.

In addition, the capacity of frequency converters with natural heat dissipation is not always small.  For low capacity converter, we can choose a general radiator, and within the allowable range, the heat dissipation area should be expanded as much as possible, the spacing between the heat sink should be small, and the heat dissipation area should be increased as much as possible. For large capacity frequency converters, heat pipe radiators are recommended if natural heat dissipation is required.  Heat pipe radiator is a new generation of new heat sink, is the combination of heat pipe technology and heat sink technology product, its heat dissipation efficiency is very high.

Forced cooling

Forced air cooling refers to the direct cooling of the device shell by installing one or more external fans.  Because the frequency converter will inevitably produce more heat when working, especially in the long-term full load operation and high ambient temperature. Therefore, in order to prevent the frequency converter from overheating, we can also add one or more fans to directly cool the frequency converter housing.  This cooling method is cheap, and the number of fans can be added to enhance the cooling effect without considering the cost.

Water-cooling

Water cooling has an inlet and outlet, and there are multiple channels inside the radiator, which can give full play to the advantages of water cooling and take away more heat.  This is the basic principle of a water-cooled radiator. Cooled is a common way of industrial cooling, but for frequency converter device, heat dissipation rarely use this way, because of the high cost, large volume, coupled with the general frequency converter capacity from thousands of volt-ampere to nearly 100 kva, it is difficult to allow the user to accept the price, this way only on special occasions and vast capacity of frequency converter is used.
